A State of Emergency has been declared in Victoria due to the risk to public health posed by coronavirus (COVID-19). This is challenging in so many ways. We are living in uncertain times and having to adapt to a new way of life, and this extends to the provision of disability support.
I understand this a difficult time for everyone, particularly for people with disability, their families and the broader disability service sector. I know some will be worried about the safety of supports received during this time, while others are worried about how to access suitable support when there are higher risks across the community. On top of that, of course, are our shared concerns about the impacts of the virus across the entire Victorian sector.
At the Victorian Disability Worker Commission, we are looking after our staff impacted by COVID-19, supporting them with technology and flexibility for remote working arrangements. I know that working from home is not necessarily an option for many in the disability service workforce. I thank you for continuing to do everything you can to help others in the current challenging environment.
At the Commission, we are committed to supporting our team and the disability sector with information and facts, to enhance the safety and welfare of the community. We work closely with the Department of Health and Human Services who provide consistent, ongoing messaging about the health polices, news and services on COVID-19. They are continuing to monitor and respond to the situation as it continues to unfold on a daily basis. Accessible information is coming soon. Please check the Department of Health and Human Services Coronavirus website for further details.
